For a community to succeed all participants need to constantly stay aware of the total community. Being flexible with personal wishes and not persist in one’s point of view is crucial within a sustainable community. In Milagro participants are asked “Can you live with this?" or "What do you need to live with this?” in order to keep the best interest of the community a thriving reality.
Specific behaviors which exemplify this value include: serve on various committees over time, attend community meetings, evaluate and critique concerns using a logical community-based focus, work toward consensus with solutions which will serve the whole community.
Respect means to view and treat others as equals. It means not treating others as I would not like to be treated. Milagro, like most communities, has a diverse population. To succeed in making decisions and creating a fulfilling life for residents, Milagro residents are to be respectful of each other.

Generosity & Compassion
A community needs to have a spirit of generosity and compassion in order to make decisions and to create a fulfilling environment for all. Being able to give freely and maintain an open mind and heart is crucial for residents of Milagro.

Appreciation provides a sense of connection and motivates participation. In Milagro residents are encouraged to show appreciation whenever possible.

In a successful community everyone needs to be responsible, to do their part, to be accountable and to participate with integrity. In Milagro all residents are expected to be responsible and participate, based on their different skills, interest, and abilities.

For a community to accomplish its goals, procedures need to be effective. Repetition and leaving issues unresolved lead to disinterest and decreased participation. In Milagro residents are encouraged to participate in training to learn to be effective leaders for committees and community meetings.

Living lightly on the Earth demands conservation of natural resources. With the decreasing amount of water available in the southwest and the increasing global temperatures conservation is crucial. Milagro homes are built to conserve energy and water. Daily, residents include many daily practices in their lives to decrease consumption of the earth’s resources.
Specific behaviors which exemplify this value include: constantly seeking ways to conserve, re-use, recycle, repair, ride share, and reduce consumption.
Celebration & Fun
Human beings are social animals. To develop and maintain a sense of connection, celebration and fun are crucial and are the basic ingredients for fulfilling this basic human need.
